GABRIEL QUINTERO VELASQUEZ

A native of San Antonio, Gabriel Quintero Velasquez received his BS in Architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio and has a long career history in various architectural offices including Killis P. Almond, FAIA, Preservation Architect. Trained in activism by Albert A. Pena, Jr., Velasquez served as Director of the Inner City Advocates at the Mexican American Unity Council and was the first march event coordinator of the San Antonio Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice, serving for over 20 years. He is recognized bi-nationally as an immigration rights activist and served as a delegate to the United Mexican States – Primer Parlamento De Lideres Mexicanos Que Viven En El Extranjero. Velasquez trained as a capacity builder for the Annie E. Casey Foundation Initiative – Making Connections San Antonio. Nominated by the San Antonio Museum of Art’s Education Committee, Velasquez was awarded the City of San Antonio Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission Award for Leadership in the Cultural Arts. He is a founding member of Luminaria San Antonio and founded “Una Noche de La Gloria – Contemporary Art in the Cultural Zone”. Velasquez served on City’s Cultural Arts Board, the Higher Education Authority, the Board of Adjustment, San Antonio Housing Commission, and currently serves on the City of San Antonio Historic Design and Review Commission and the Westside Creeks Restoration Oversight Committee (San Antonio River Authority) charged with community oversight of the 14-mile ecosystem restoration of the Alazan, Apache, Martinez, and San Pedro Creeks. As of 2021 Gabriel Quintero Velasquez is the Texas Regional Representative on the UnidosUS Affiliate Council.
ROSA RAMIREZ

Vice President of Operations

Born and raised in the Westside, Rosa Ramirez attended Carvajal Elementary and Rhodes Middle School before relocating to central San Antonio where she attended Wheatley High School.  She received various scholarships and grants that enabled her to attend University of Incarnate Word.  Currently she is 18 hours from her Bachelors of Arts in Administration and Management.  Ramirez has held various management positions at AT&T and provided leadership for organizations within the company.  Most recently, she has served as a  Worker’s Compensation Consultant for various companies in San Antonio.  Currently, Ramirez is an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, a volunteer of Christian Doctrine Education, a member of The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), and Women of Faith.  As Operations Manager for the Avenida Guadalupe Association, Ramirez facilitates Human Resources for 21 employees which includes Avenida Guadalupe Development, Inc. and Avenida Guadalupe Zarzamora Senior Homes, Inc.

ROLAND TORRES

Vice President of Facilities

Roland Torres was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio. He is a graduate of Harlandale High School. Roland has experience in inventory distribution, technical support repairs and ensuring compliance with applicable programs. He has two years’ experience in understanding and drafting floor plans. Torres was self-employed for twenty plus years in sound & lighting, mobile sound system and being a disc jockey. Between 2002 and 2015 Roland worked in residential light companies where he helped customers plan lighting layouts for new construction and remodeled homes. At the Avenida Roland is the Commercial Properties Superintendent providing support and direction for the commercial property team. Roland is responsible for the operations of the Avenida properties.
JONATHAN ORTIZ

Senior Operations Coordinator

Jonathan J. Ortiz was raised in the 78207 zip code and attended Brewer Elementary, Tafolla Middle School, and graduated from Lanier High School. The youngest of four children of a hard working single mom, he joined the Avenida in September 2015 and is our youngest employee. While at Lanier Jonathan was in the Advertising Design program where he participated in the Skills USA competition, winning first place in poster design. Out of High School he went off to college, making him the first in his family to hold a college degree. During his time in school Jonathan did internships at Street Talk Magazine, The Current, and The Social Being a full service digital marketing agency(where he obtained employment out of college). Currently Jonathan is Marketing Director/Community Builder at Avenida Guadalupe Association providing leadership for media communications, digital marketing and community organizing.
MARGARET L. HERNANDEZ

Affordable Housing Specialist

Margaret L. Hernandez, Director of Affordable Housing, was born and raised on the 1400 block of Colima in a family residing in the area for over one hundred years. She attended J.T. Brackenridge Elementary School in SAISD. Margaret is responsible for the operations of AVEGU, Avenida’s affordable senior housing residential properties department. Margaret has extensive experience in managing all types of multifamily housing, including HUD , HOME, and LIHTC regulated communities. In addition, she also has experience in conventional property management. Further duties include coordinating all HUD multifamily asset reporting requirements along with other affordable housing requirements to state and local agencies. She serves as the 504 Coordinator who is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable housing program requirements for each community that receive rental assis
